Linnentown - The Musical is set to return to The Classic Center Theatre in Athens, Georgia, in September 2025, bringing with it a powerful message of history, community, and justice. The production will include a special student performance on Thursday, September 11, followed by public performances from Friday, September 12, through Sunday, September 14. Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 16, at 10:00 a.m. at ClassicCenter.com.
Written by Athens native and author Hattie Thomas Whitehead, Linnentown - The Musical brings to life the history of the vibrant neighborhood of Linnentown, which was displaced during a 1960s urban renewal project. The production is based on Whitehead’s memoir, Giving Voice to Linnentown, and serves as a moving artistic tribute to the resilience and spirit of its former residents.
Proceeds from Linnentown- The Musical will help support Athens-Clarke County Center for Racial Justice and Black Futures, the city’s first African American history center. The Center will preserve and honor the stories of Linnentown and other aspects of local history.
